HARI MALAYSIA 2007 – PRESS RELEASE
Although Hari Merdeka holds a special meaning for Malaysians in general, many may not know what Hari Malaysia is. 16 September was the day when Sabah and Sarawak joined Malaya to form Malaysia in 1963.
For training and development company, zubedy (m) sdn bhd, Hari Malaysia is an occasion to celebrate as it holds an added significance, especially as they regard it as their day of unity and shared values.
To commemorate this special day, Anas together with the zubedyans decided to celebrate it with the theme “ Many Ways, One Aim”.
Softly lit candles with flower petals thrown along the corridor with the mixture of jasmine flowers greeted guests. The instant homely feeling brought comfort to the heart and soul. Besides childhood games from yesteryears, a sharing session via breathing meditation were also held.
Zubedy’s Stress Management Facilitator, Susan Kwok demonstrated to the guests meditation techniques that are found from each spiritual tradition.
Many present had long forgotten such childhood games as it was only played back in their school days.
While starting to get comfortable on the ‘tikar mengkuang’, the jovial emcees announced the line up for the day. The evening started with Anas Zubedy’s opening speech, showcasing their vision of unity and shared values to show that we are one. “We must become more aware, understand and accept that multiplicity is God’s creation. We must see unity in diversity and learn to love all because when we dislike the other, we dislike part of His design. We must learn to pay attention to deeper reasons behind His creation. There are many languages, the goal is to communicate. We have many hearts, but one spirit. There are many lamps, but only one light,” said Anas.
The evening started with a Shared Values Session where employees of zubedy share their experience of fasting from different religions. Later, the evening continued with the melodious sounds of sitar, tabla and flute by Mrs Jayasree Arumugam from Swara Management. 10-year-old Aisya Azli recited a poem entitled “Ingat, Kita Adalah Satu”, originally written by Dr Anwar Fazal of Malaysia’s Interfaith Network.
Eco Drum Circle from Yayasan Anak Warisan Alam continued with a performance where they rendered a medley of songs from recycled materials. Food for thought was the powerpoint show highlighting the quotes on unity form different spiritual traditions to signify our oneness in spirit.
Breaking the silence, the emcees invited the guests to join their tradition, to sing Fantasy by the famous group Earth, Wind and Fire. While waiting for the azan to break fast, employees of zubedy presented their special food for the day – Unity Dates, served with hot tea. Everyone later headed to the eatery for yet another delectable experience.
“With the shared values session, one will be able to understand why we have many ways to do something but we share the same goal,” said Anas, who started the training and development organisation 13 years ago.
